I have 12 GB of RAM, but I found out that my system only allowed 6.

I only have a hard drive so things get really slow.

Even Windows freezes up.

I noticed in task manager that some programs memory usage drops as low as 0.1.

When I try to load that app, everything gets really slow.

When I googled the problem, I found out that you needed to allow 3 times as much memory.

Is this right?

Please help, this is a new computer.

My minimum is 16mb, the recommended is 4597mb and 6400mb is currently allowed.

First: Welcome to the forums, If you fallow the CoC we will be fine.

from my point of view you dont need Any virtual memory, i have 8gb of RAM and All of it is for regular work with programs.

Some things load slowly since im on a 5 year old 300gb HDD. but i never freeze.

so....

do i set all of the sizes to 0?

You can try. How do you even use virtual memory?

The only time windows freezes in my experience is when there is not enough RAM for windows or the OS wasnt installed properly.

I wouldn't turn virtual memory off completely. Most people who worry about its size are worried over the space it takes on their SSDs. I previously had whole 8gb file on HDD until I had temporary problem with HDD not powering on boot. This resulted general windows slowness, icon cache missing etc. After that I've kept small file on SSD and bigger on HDD.

I don't know why you can't set it higher than 6gb. Only available space of drive should be limitting factor. I had 20gb virtual memory on older XP machine. However you won't be needing more than 4gb. Some software require it to run smoothly, even if system has 12-32gb of physical ram.
