Linus' 8x Raid 0?

I have asked a few times in the live stream about why Linus uses 8 SSD's in Raid 0 for his boot drive.

Seems a bit overkill to me.

Does anyway have any idea why it is really necessary?

Its fast? He said he has almost 1TB of ssd storage space. Also because he edits video so that would help.

In addition, he's got a backup server in his house, so he doesn't need to worry about data loss if one of them died.

Single SSD would boot my OS in about 12-14 seconds from what i remember.

Does it really need to be that much faster? lol

Especially for the expense of a hardware raid setup?

If you want or need the extra performance and can afford to do it than why not

Yeah i also someday wish the own the most ridiculous overkill machine in the world lol.

It will be so stupid and overpriced but it will be awesome.

Yeah he also talks about having no important or unrecoverable data on the array. They would be a pain to cable manage though.

He probably doesn't edit stuff on that PC at all. I think that PC for him is just for like sitting down and surfing the web, playing some games when he has time - and for the enjoyment of building it. But he doesn't really have that much free time i think - baby and stuff...
