So my dad is looking to get an Android phone to replace his broken Galaxy S1. He wants something similar, as it will not cost much, and the S1 was perfectly enough power for him to get done what he does with a phone. Calling, sending a few texts a day, maybe one or two Google searches, maybe taking a picture or two, and voice calls over Viber.

He needs it to work on his carrier, WIND Mobile here in Canada, which requires AWS frequencies on 3G.

I have $70 CAD to spend (no more then that) so I'd like to pick up a used phone off eBay for him. I've narrowed it down to four that he likes, which one do you guys think is the best to get?

LG MyTouch/MyTouch Q - QWERTY keyboard on Q version

HTC MyTouch 4G - Best camera and build quality

Samsung Exhibit II 4G T679 - ICS and higher ROMs available that don't break things like video recording, but most expensive and worst camera (3MP)

Google Nexus One - Similar to MyTouch 4G, but more expensive for it is a more rare and notable phone, comes unlocked

I'm sort of leaning towards the Samsung, as a stable ICS/JB/KK ROM can be installed (unlike the LG which is GB only) without breaking video recording (something that occurs with the MT4G and Nexus One) and my dad would like to keep that, and really only the Samsung will allow you to have video recording without staying on Gingerbread.

If you have any other suggestions feel free to leave them below, but keep in mind they must be AWS 3G compatible (T-Mobile phones will be compatible for sure), and in the price bracket of the phones listed above.

Thanks! :)

Nexy Nexus

Is it worth the software deficit? Because in order to have video recording work properly which my dad wants, you'll have to stick with a Gingerbread ROM on the Nexus One. Also, app storage space is a bit lacking

Why are you considering rooting/swapping ROMs if it's going to be your dad's phone? I'd go for the HTC because of the solid build and good camera (since it'll be used daily)

Only because they all come with Gingerbread, if they at least came with ICS then it wouldn't be a problem.

Looks like the my touch 4g htc then

I could get a MyTouch 4G Slide, would paying a bit more for that be a better choice over the non-Slide?

I don't care about the keyboard, but the Slide version also has upgraded specs, including an 8MP camera with dual LED flash and 1080p video vs 5MP with single LED and 720p video, dual core vs single core, and more RAM.

IMO I think it's worth the extra bit of money, thickness and weight for the better specs, especially in today's age
