Hello there I have a question about using old components from an old pc and moving it to a new one. I have 2 old computers and one has 320gb and the other has 400gb. I was wondering if I could move them to my new build even if they are sorta old. One of them is a Hitachi and the other a SeaGate. One of them has Windows 7 and the other has XP. How would my new build boot up with 2 different windows? Will I have to clear the data on the XP one and install windows 7 on that one? I lost the disk for Windows installation. I also have another component I want to put into my new PC. It is a DvD drive and I was wondering if it would be compatible with newer motherboards?

-AMD FX 8320 3.5ghz 8core

-Asus M5A97 R2.0 Am3+ mobo

-8gb of Ram

-Radeon R9 270

Which drive to boot from can be selected in BIOS. Booting into 1 Windows will allow you to access files on the other drive, though you probably should then delete the older Windows installation as you won't need it. As for the optical drive, if it's SATA, you should be fine.

And you did bother capitalizing first letters of sentences and and brand names, so do please use 'GB' for 'gigabyte'.

You have to do a clean windows install with all the new things.. so you get the sitem to work properly, with drviers etc.

Ehh it is definitely not sata. I think its a molex type of cable ( I think that is what it is called).

I'm not asking about power. I'm asking about data.

Is it SATA or IDE? Your motherboard doesn't have IDE connector.

Is it possible to first install the hdd and download windows onto a usb, delete the memory and install windows back onto the hdds?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Do you want to boot with your old HDD, run Windows from it and download Windows, and then erase (format) your HDD and install Windows from USB stick?

That would work, you'd need Windows USB/DVD Download Tool, available here (to 'burn' ISO file to USB):

It is and Ide.

In that case, you would need an adaptor, or just buy a new one if you can.
