Windows 8 - Backup CD Key

I am planning on installing OSX Yosemite on a laptop and want to know if there is any way to back up the Windows 8 CD key? for when I want to re install window 8 back on in the future (If need be)

Generally, Windows 8 and 8.1 laptops have the code hard-written in the BIOS.

So when I go to re install windows, it (hopefully) will not ask for the key, I'll type it in and it should not say it's in use?

Just pull the drive and get a new one for OSX. Then for sure its backed up. But you prabably have a recovery partition.

Too much effort even if I had a spare 2.5 inch drive lying about

you can use magic jelly bean to get the product key.
Keep in mind, this key can only be used for THIS MACHINE, or another model identical to it.

Just looked if the Wi-Fi card is going to be compatible with Yosemite.....not looking good.
