GTX 780 Question

FireFox

Hey Guys,

I have a temperature question about the GTX 780 Lightning. So far the hottest I've seen it is 66 degrees while folding but what is worrying me is when I get the second installed the temperatures sky rocket.

Someone mentioned that it should reach around 80-85 degrees and if this is true how long would the chip last. When they aren't gaming they are folding so it would be experiencing that temperature a lot.

Maybe I'm getting worried for nothing but I do love low temperatures and the GTX 650 Ti hitting barely 55 degrees under load has spoilt me over the last year I've owned it.

If you've got good airflow there's nothing to worry. Generally it's about 10-15 degrees © higher than the top card (air cooled). I seriously doubt it will peak 80+....

I have a single 120mm at the back blowing out, two 140mm Fractals blowing in on the side and a 140mm Corsair at the front blowing in. The case I have is the one in my signature.

Would there be a way to limit the amount the card heats up or maybe adding another fan right next to it somehow, with Afterburner I've limited the max temperature to 68 degrees which has also lowered the power target.

You've got good airflow, and the side fans will provide plenty of cool air for the cards. I'm pretty certain in MSI Afterburner, you can set power limits and set a temperature target, in which the cards won't exceed.

I personally use EVGA precision to manage my OC. I got my power management set to 110% and temp target set to 90 degrees. That said, my cards never exceed 75 degrees (top card 75 and bottom card 68) under 100% load.

The motherboard I'm thinking about getting in around a week or so is a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H and looking at the spacing between the PCI-e slots looks like it may give me a little more room between cards. I'm hoping that will help because I really don't want the top GPU straying much into the early 70's, maybe what I'm wanting to it isn't possible.

Because of the Fractal 140mm fans on the side of the case I'm hoping both cards will run at around the same temperature. If anyone has any suggestions on more powerful fans then please let me know, whether it is audable or not doing bother me, I really don't mind some fan noise so long as my GPU's are nice an cool.
