Hi

I have an asus DSL-N66U router and a Asus PCI-E n53 wireless card.I have just moved my desktop to another location maybe an extra 3 meters away and now the wireless wont connect and I am using my laptop as a wireless card over ethernet to connect to game online the rest i can do on my laptop. this isn't a bad but i don't want to run my laptop when i have a perfectly good wireless card. to further explain the card does connect sporadically but only for a sort amount of time. my laptop is right next to my desktop and it has full bars occasionally dropping 1 so its not a matter of range on the router side. my thinking is that i have some aerials that came with an old wireless card that died. and an aerial is just a section of wire so if i somewhat destroyed the old aerial and soldered a wire to it would that work? or are there any other suggestions out there? and no i cannot run an ethernet cable from the router as there are no more spare plugs in it.

Sounds to me like it's your NIC (Network Interface Card, your n53) if your laptop is right there and getting full bars. I would suggest trying to actually point your n35's antennas at your router, they are more directional then you may think. When you moved your desktop PC did you also do anything to the software (try re-installing the n53's drivers yet?)? Also, you may want to open it up to make sure the card didn't get knocked loose in the move.

Another suggestion is to use an Ethernet Powerline Adaptor, and do wired Ethernet that way. You would obviously want to do some research to find one compatible with New Zealand electrical outlets and wiring.

That's all i got, sorry :(

I don't know anything about soldering antennas onto a NIC, hopefully someone with more experience can come by and help you out.
