Hey all

So I'm looking into buying a new cpu and motherboard for my system, and after posting on several forums this is the pair I've got:

FX-6300

Gigabyte GA-970A-D3P

Will this motherboard be able to handle overclocking? Using a Hyper 212, what kind of speeds can I expect?

I'm kind of new to overclocking, so if someone could please give me a short explanation of how to actually do it, that would be wonderful.

Thanks you all in advance.

Maybe about 4.5 to even 4.7

I have 2 friends who run that same setup and those are the OC's they achieved.

I didn't think you could get that out of a 970 chipset :o

Thanks for reply though

Certainly cemented my thoughts on buying this pair

They did. Maybe it was just extreme luck. But either way it is definitely a solid buy that you'll be happy with.

I was able to hit 4.5 Ghz on 1.376v but yours would be different.

$100 is a little bit more than a little.

Would love an i5, but the benefits really aren't worth that.

What about the Asus M5A97 R2.0? Is it better than the Gigabyte? Only $6 more.

It's a great board. If I would've gone with a 970 board it would've been that one.

Well I guess that'll be my purchase.

Would love to grab the GA-970A-UD3P, with is 8+2 power phases, however the board does not exist in Australia, and can't be shipped here.

Thanks for all the help though.

PS: One more thing, would the Cryorig H5 be a better option than the 212?
