After a major network infrastructure overhaul I find a need for a streaming solution which I would ideally like to keep under £100 supporting the following:

  • It has to be able to comfortably deal with 1080p through HDMI
  • Generic Linux compatibility would be great to have.
  • True Gigabit Ethernet and/or 5GHz wireless capabilities (after market is fine)
  • No specific need for own storage (minus OS obviously) as it will stream from NAS
  • Must be available in the UK

I'm intending to connect a wireless micro keyboard & track pad combo controller. I've looked at a range of devices so far including;

  • BeagelBoard (black seems to look the most promising)
  • Raspberry Pi (definitely not powerful enough)
  • Hummingboard (seems powerful enough but can't source in UK)

Does anyone have any suggestions or first had experience? I'm also willing to consider alternative technology if appropriate of course.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.
