I've had some unexpected hardware failures and need a new CPU and mobo asap!  I haven't been following CPU progress much in the last year, so I don't know where we are at in the product cycle.  I'm looking at the Intel i5 4690k.  My primary uses are gaming and productivity (for work).  It looks like AMD is pretty much out of the race for now, so I'm thinking Intel is going to be the way to go.

I'm just wondering if we are on the verge of next gen intel CPUs coming, or am I safe to go ahead and make the purchase?  I'll probably have to just do it anyway, but I'd sleep better knowing we aren't at end-of-life for current gen.

thanks!

Also, any recommendations for a very high quality and stable motherboard?  I was thinking the Asus Sabertooth.

AFAIK anything by MSI is usually pretty stable and good, but ASUS or Gigabyte are quite good options too for motherboards. ;)
