Two routers and a Plex server?

I have two router in my network one is a modem/router combo which I have turned off the ssid for and the other is the one I bought for myself (which is much better than the crap that twc gives you).

I have upnp turned on on the second router, but not on the first which is the modem/router combo unit (have i mentioned that i hate those things?)

 

If i turned on the port 9000 on router one and 9000 on router two would it work?

If i turned on upnp on both routers would that work?

 

If neither of my solutions would work, you tell me how to completly disable the router portion of the first router and only have it as a modem? (is this even possible?)

The modem/router needs to be "bridged" with what your using for a router. Then it will bypass all routing functions and let yours do everything. If you can not bridge the modem/router you can disable dhcp server on your router, and the modem one will hand out all addresses and do the routing. Your purchased one would simply act as the wifi access point and give you more ports like a switch.
