High Capacity VS Raid 0

Go to solution Solved by DarkR3bel,

It really depends on your purpose and what you need from your storage. If you need a backup drive that will be rarely read from, a 4TB WD Green is fine. If you need the speed of roughly 2 HDDs and will have a backup or if you're ready to lose all of your data in an instant then a 2x2TB RAID 0 should be fine.

4TB is more reliable but the 2 2TB is way more expensive but I would imagine that the 2 2TB SSD in RAID is really freak'n fast!!!!!

I didn't even know that they made a 2TB SSD?

but if they did then it would set you back almost $2000.

fuck me that's expensive

anyway so i should get a 4tb wb green drive instead?

I don't think you can get consumer 2TB SATA SSDs yet, but if you need blazing fast performance and will have a backup or if you're ready to lose all of your data in an instant then a 2x2TB RAID 0 should be fine.

do i need 4tb of storage if i download lots of stuff?

How much is lots? You'll need 4TB if you are going to download more than 3TB of stuff. I have 30 Steam games installed, uses about 300GB of space. So if you are going to download a LOT of games or have a lot of movies on your drive, you'll still probably only need 2-3TB. 4TB is if you want to keep hours of raw footage or have a metric butt ton of stuff.
