Hi, I have an Asus Z97 AR motherboard, and it says it can support Gen 3 of pcie 3.0x16.

But when I try to change it in the pch configuration, there's only options for auto, gen 1, gen 2. But when I go the pcie speeds, it lets me pick pcie 3.0, but then the audio is messed up, and frames are so low in games.

I'm beginning to think this motherboard doesn't really support 3.0.

I have to run it in pcie 2.0x16 and set everything to gen 2.

My card is a 770.

@grimmjow660

if you'll use GPU-Z and load the card, you'll notice the GEN will be default

GEN 3.0. the AUTO is default GEN 3.0 (if device is compatible)

the drop down in the UEFI is for troubleshooting. most devices GEN 3.0

are backwards compatible. the older cards might not have that luxury to

be able to "run" ballz to the wall and might flake-out, so the option to slow

the bus down for compatibility.

But if I leave it on auto, the audio is messed up, and frames are so low in games.

Bios is version 1205

  • 3 weeks later...

Too bad my card is only a GTX570 which is PCIe 2.0 so I can't test this. Hopefully someone could provide an answer as I'm looking to upgrading my gfx card as well; would love to take advantage of that PCIe 3.0 speeeeed.

My wallet is a bottleneck. Someone help me overclock this.

I talked to someone else about and they have the same board as me. They don't have the problem. It could be my CPU possibly
