Hey guys, I'm thinking about changing up my build a bit. I currently have an MSI Z87-G55 ATX mobo with an i5-4670K running at 4.2GHz. I'm thinking about switching to an mATX setup and I came across the MSI Z97-G43 mATX mobo as a possible choice. The board itself is beautiful, and I am already familiar with the UEFI. However, I noticed that it only has a 4 pin CPU slot (the G55 has an 8 pin). Could this smaller slot affect overclocking my CPU at all? Or would that only come into play when trying to overclock a larger CPU? Are there and other mATX boards I should consider?

It might since there could be less power being delivered to the CPU... But that won't really matter if you're not going beyond the +500MHz overclocks...

typically it would mean it will not overclock as well. However Haswell is easy on power phases so probably not. How far do you want to overclock it?

Just read reviews on the board and see how far it overclocked

Well on my current board I have it running at 4.2GHz. I don't know if that is a CPU limitation or if the mobo plays in as well. I have an AIO single rad cooler on it and my PSU is more than sufficient, so those shouldn't be affecting overclockability. I am perfectly fine with keeping it running at 4.2. The mobo I think is fairly new, so there aren't many reviews on it I don't think.

There are reviews. But 4.2 wont be an issue. Its when you get above 4.4 this things start to heat up

Why is 4.4 the limit, and would you be so kind as to give me a link for reviews? The only ones I am finding is a single review on Newegg and other websites that don't have the correct mobo.

So read some of the customer reviews at NE and see if any had problems over clocking. Also I didn't say 4.4 was the limit. I meant if your not going over 4.4 you have nothing to worry about. When you hit 4.5 that's when the power phase gets stressed and temps get high. It what separates the men from the boys as far as boards go. But your right there isn't much yet for reviews but keep looking. I bought a Mini ITX Z97 ASRock board and love it. No issues and it runs a G3258 at 4.6 and it only has the 4 pin 12v
