Hi Guys,

Now that I have chosen my case Arc mini R2, which is on the way.  I now need to update my PSU.  Currently, I am looking at the Corsair RM650, mainly because its modular, very efficient, and no noise under normal load.  Cheapest price I have found is £79.99.

I was wondering if there are any alternative PSU's with the above requirements for cheaper.

Thanks in advance.

I'd stay away from RM. So many people are falling for the trap it scares me every time (http://www.overclock.net/t/1455892/why-you-might-not-want-to-buy-a-corsair-rm-psu). I suggest the XFX XTR 650W, a much better, fully modular and also hybrid PSU like the RM series ( http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1650bbefx)

XFX XTR 650W looks a good PSU and is a few £'s cheaper.  Do you have this PSU yourself?

I have read some reviews on this and sounds very good.  However, I'm looking for a PSU with flat cables, much neater to route behind the motherboard.

It has flat black cables (hardwarecanucks use this psu and they use flat black cables so i am assuming this). The fan will kick in only after 50% load or so. It is also very quiet.

Yes the xfx  XTR 650w does have flat cables after reading some reviews on it.

Does the Superflower Leadex Gold 650W have flat cables.  From the pictures its just got the normal sleeved cables.

The Superflower has a mix of 'flat' and standard sleeved cables.

I see. Is it generally low noise level when under load?

It has a thermal controlled fan (Similar to the Corsair RM). You can either set it to run all the time, or have it set so that it comes on at a certain load.

This is the 750W version fan switch - http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules/NDReviews/images/SuperflowerLeadexG750/DSC_3641.jpg

Eco - The fan is turned off until needed

Auto - The fan runs all the time

Because for the same or less money, there are usually better alternatives such as the ones above.

I got my RM850 for $130....

Your prices in Australia are a bit different to the UK though. The EVGA G2 (Based off the Superflower Leadex) is cheaper here than the RM.

When the fan does come on, is it very audible? Couldn't quite work it out from the review.

It is very quiet according to this test, but this is with the fan on auto mode.

At 500W load it is measured at 23.4 Decibels which is very quiet.

If you leave it on eco mode then you might not even hear it at all.
