Reboot and select proper boot device message

Hi everyone on this forum,

6 months ago.. my littlebrother purchased components and I helped him build his computer and 1 month ago, Windows released new updates for Windows 8.1 64-bit  that contained bugs. His computer were working perfectly fine before the updates. But when he downloaded and installed the new updates the computer restarted 2 times and then he got a message on his screen saying Please reboot and select proper boot device. We have tried almost everything.. such as, changing the SATA-cables, different SATA-ports, resetting the CMOS/BIOS. Changing the boot order/priority in BIOS. Reinstalling Windows 8.1 64-bit. The OS is on his SSD which is an Kingston V300. When we change settings in his BIOS so that the SSD will be configured as number 1 in boot settings and save the settings and restart the computer, it has "forgotten" or automaticaly changed the settings so that the SSD is no longer number 1 in boot settings. We have tried with a mechanical HDD in the same SATA-port + with the same SATA-cables and it seems to work fine, but some other issues appear with the mechanical HDD instead as the OS-drive such as when my little brother puts the computer in sleep mode, and try to start it up.. it starts but goes into sleeping mode again. And also.. we have noticed that neither the keyboard or computer mouse lights up(LED) during POST and when neither the computer mouse or keyboard lights up, that's when we also get the message on the screen saying "Please reboot and select proper boot device". I've been live chatting with the support on Komplett.se and the guy I was chatting with suggested that the SSD was faulty and needs to be replaced. But what do you think? Should we send in just the SSD for RMA? Or should we send both SSD and the motherboard in for an RMA?

His computer components is:
CPU: Intel core I7 4770K
Motherboard: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming
SSD: Kingston V300
HDD: Some mechanical HDD with capacity of 500GB.
GPU: Asus Geforce GTX 780
PSU: Corsair RM850 850W
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz 16GB.

Plug the Drive with the OS on it into another PC and check in disk manager if it is a Bootable drive, Windows may have changed it or corrupted it.

Can Also try doing a repair to the OS boot, and try to boot into the windows repair, if you have the cd boot using that do try do to a start up repiair or reinstall windows etc

For the mouse and keyboard in the BIOS check for settings that allow USB intergration, for example on mine i have None, Auto and Full initialsation where non ignores all USBs, Auto does Mouse and Keyboard etc and Full does everything including USB drive, Headphones, Bla bla
