Looking for a new audio setup

So I'm looking for a new audio setup for my desk where I mostly watch movies and play games. I have a $400CAD budget for the speakers and ill throw in $200 if I need a dac. These will be hooked up to my computers rear port.

Two speakers that keep popping up are the

  M-Audio BX5 D2's and the Audioengine A5+

which would be better or are there speakers better than both in my price range?

Also what dacs should I be looking into?

Do you need a loud speakers (i.e. big room)?

If not, you could save some money, and go with the A2+. It got its own built-in DAC, so just plug into USB, and done....

Master size bedroom and I'd like to be able to move them back and forth from my TV to my pc setup (in the same room) or out into the living room for parties

Then go with the A5+, and maybe get a sub, if you want to.

A5+ should be enough for bedrooms. As for parties, well of course it depends on the size of the party (room size, crowd size, or even open area). You might have to go a whole different solution for parties, i.e. standing speakers + amps...

Oh and you don't need to get a separate dac with these speakers. Unless you're going all out on hi-fidelity speakers and room setups, a separate dac won't make enough difference on regular speakers, I think....

If you're after accurate sound, allocate $500 on two of these and you'd likely be happier:

The general consensus is that they're quite a bit better than the D2s.

You can use your integrated audio for the meantime as you shop around for a DAC.
