As everyone knows DDR4 ram is expensive as shit right now, so I want to get the cheapest ram I can get. Is there honestly much of a difference between this ram from crucial or the £200+ kits from corsair or G.Skill?

To me it seems as if the only difference is the look, which doesn't bother me as I can get a non-windowed case and use the £200+ I've saved to spend on other things. Is there a price-worthy difference in performance? I'm just wondering why it's so cheap...?

Does the faster speed really justify the extra price? I could get this for now, and then when ram is cheaper in a year or two upgrade it?

Not really no, my main point being that DDR3 has similar speeds for cheaper. Unless you already had the X99 parts there's not really a reason to upgrade yet until prices drop.

I'm not upgrading a rig I'm building a completely knew one. I'm coming from a Mac, and don't want to buy X79/DDR3 when X99 and DDR4 has just been released, meaning I'll have to upgrade the mobo, ram and CPU at a later date. I'd rather get the mobo and CPU, get a slower kit of ram and then upgrade it - if that makes sense?

Sort of, I get your point. Also keep in mind though that the X79 platform is still a top contender and the parts can last you 3-5 years. If you really wanted X99 and DDR4 now than yeah your idea is a good one.
