Distorted Display

Go to solution Solved by elvper,

Possibly the adapter/cable

This kind of stuff used to happen a lot on slider phones of which the connector to the screen is stressed a lot and will break after some (hopefully) years of using it.

Try buying new cables / adaptors.

I've experienced such distortions on my N97 mobile phone (bought new one recently as connector broke for the 3rd time): (weird comparison, but can very easely also happen on PC screens)

So on random boots, it only happens every day or two, when i start up my PC the display is all distorted... No hardware changes, cables, or anything has been changed when it occurs. It just seems to be completely random.

I'm currently using a DVI to VGA adapter that came with my GPU, Setup if it matters: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/qVnh23

It seems to be solved by shutting down, then booting back up. A restart however doesn't help.

Any ideas what could be the cause? Adapter, GPU? I know it's not my monitor as i've had other things connected to it and never had a problem with it.

I haven't really been able to use a different cable, as i said it only happens on occasions so they'd be no telling if it was going to distort. The next time it occurs, i'll wip out the current cable and put a HDMI in and see if that does anything, but that could be days till it occurs again...

Luckily (I guess) as i booted up just now it was distorted again. So i whipped out the cable and adapter and put a hdmi in and boom, no distortion. I don't think there's anything wrong with the adapter, just that over time(over night or so) the weight of the adapter pulling down has loosened the connection.
