thanks for the tip, his friends Chris says learning hardware is pointless for networking, but I agree with you, I'll work on convincing him.

Coming from a Network Analyst Job at 21... its worth it but its crazy, if your brother gets deeper into it and decides to go for it. Go for his CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) and runng  GNS3 or Cisco Packet Tracer for configuring routers and switches (Virtually) or look into getting a home labsetup (bout 700 dollars last time I pricied out the devices) also most Bookstores have CCNA related books for training.

 

Looked at the computer guy links, seems to have most the basics covered though.

Also learning hardware is far from pointless, knowing what a raid array is (and type) has saved me troubleshooting device's like WAN accelerators :)

YES it is a college class taught by a REAL professor at UofW

No it is not credited BUT you will receive a certificate of completion by the instructor.

 

I've already taken this course and I loved it, Learned a LOT

 

Plus they have their own "forums" in each class so everyone who's taking it can interact with each other, ask questions, get together study groups etc!

 

greatest thing is, IT'S FREE. There are also plenty of other subjects you can sign up for. its all free classes!
