7970 DCU2 Top question

so apparently asus has locked the 7970 top cards which means no pushing past 1125. well according to the interwebs, I could flash the bios of the card and make the computer read it as a 7970 MATRIX which would allow me to overclock to my wildest dreams. my question mainly us how difficult is it to flash the bios for my card potentially changing the way it appears and will it brick my card. I got it for $400 off ebay :] I was quite happy with my purchase. thanks for the help
