Hello all, I recently built my computer and have been using a makeshift wireless setup for it by using my phone as a receiver, I currently have $30 that I can spend on a better, more permanent internet connection device, either I can get a new wireless card for it (The one I had been using before died), or I can go with powerline ethernet.

My house is around 100 years old or so, though the wiring was re-done about 4 years ago so that shouldn't be an issue.

(I would just run an Ethernet cable, but the router is all the way across the house and down a floor from my pc.)

Anyone have either of these? or at least uses powerline ethernet?

Would you suggest that I go for powerline over wireless?

(If you suggest something, please keep in mind that I am in the USA, will purchase it from amazon.com, and only have $30 to spend.)

Try find a friend that will let you borrow theirs, powerline is amazing when it works.... i bought some of the plugs only to find that my wiring isnt the best and signal drops when say a washing machine is powered up on that ring main.

However wireless adds very little ping and no reduction is speed depending on the link speed.

I'm using a TPLink 500mbit powerline and it works perfect.

Hmm, any speed reduction from powerline? (I've got 30mb/s, and when I would use wireless on my laptop in my room I would get 16mb/s or so, so pretty much 1/2 speed.)
