Thoughts about this build?

Juked28

Hi,

I was wondering how this build would perform, like what settings would I be able to play on? I know it doesnt show the power supple or case because I couldn't find it through the selections.

If you guys were wondering, i chose the eVGA 430W Power Supply and the Cooler Master Elite 241 case.

Also, the reasons why I chose these parts are because I can purchase these at a local store (CAD)

BTW I'm new to all this.

it's an okay build, but I'd go for a dual-channel memory kit like 2x4gb rather than 1x8gb.

also you can probably get a cheaper 1TB HDD paired with a 120gb SSD instead of a 1.5tb WD Green. an SSD gives you much faster boot times and everything will feel more "snappy"

could you send a link via PCpartpicker, I can link a better build

The Asrock H81 Pro and Gigabyte GA-H81-D3 will allow overclocking of the G3258 and might be less expensive than the MSI Z97 PC Mate.

Get a 2x4GB memory kit to take advantage of dual channel memory operation. Look for memory modules that are <= 33 mm tall.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Hi there Juked28,

don't worry that you're new to this, you can only get good advice and help here. :)

From what I understood this is a gaming build. I would agree with @Vacsol's first comment; it's better to get a 2x4 GB rather than 1x8 GB Memory; it would work a bit better. If I'm not mistaking, this MoBo has a crossfire option, which is good; later on you could decide to get a second GPU and crossfire the two video cards for higher performance. Otherwise, the GPU you've chosen is good.

If you're really that new to building PC's and how certain actions would affect the overall rig, I wouldn't advice you to start overclocking right away. You'd need firstly to read a lot about your CPU and cooler, how they work etc. and how to act and notice if something is not right.

Also, the hard drive you've chosen, the WD Green, is a secondary storage drive for archiving and backuping. It has IntelliPower and though it could work for gaming, there's a better choice. I'd recommend you the WD Black hard drive. It's designed exactly for gaming and more demanding applications. It's for maximum computer performance, with 7200 RPM and up to 4 TB of capacity.

If you'd like to check it out, here's a link:

Otherwise, about the SSD, it's good to have one (256 GB is usually normal, you'd have extra space if you need any) in order to have the OS and most programs there to boot from. Of course, it's not necessary, only if you decide to.

I hope I've helped!

Cheers! :)

If you think I helped, like!  :P
