Budget : max $500.

I found something that should do very nicely :

I would buy whatever is in your price range from Sony. They make better TVs than Samsung in my experience.

Compatible with Windows 95

I'm on the verge of buying a new TV, the last 2 LCD I have had are from samsung. There great, look good out of the box apart from 2 things the smart side of them have been poo and after 2 years in I get colour bleeding from top of screen. So this time round I am going to look at different companies hopefully get a TV which will last longer.

That being said I know companies use cheaper components these days to keep you buying new stuff every couple of years.

I have no better soloutions for you, but im interested to see what else pops up in recommendations.

CPU: I5-4440 / MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z87-DS3H / RAM: G.Skill ripjaws 2x4GB / Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 128gb SSD, 1TB WD HDD / PSU: Corsair CX500M / Case: Xigmatek Aquila / Monitor: Dell U2414H

LG is best for budget TV.

Sony best for mid-range quality,

Panasonic best for high quality,

Samsung best if you care about what your tv looks like off more than when it's on.

In terms of measured performance the current models have changed quite a bit.

Sony depends on other panel makers (Mostly Samsung and LG for higher end models, and smaller Taiwanese makers for the rest) and mostly just refines the video processing (using their own tech for higher end models, and tweaked vendor components for lower end models). They are at the mercy of their vendors when it comes to component selection, so one tends to get a lower spec device at the same price point (or go higher in price for a comparable result).

Panasonic no longer sells their revered Plasma panels and mostly depends on LG IPS panels now. They still make reliable TVs though based on statistics.

For $500, I'd probably look at Sharp or LG.
