Well.. my system is old.. (x48)...

The asus x99-s with cheapest cpu and 16gb of ddr4 is about 20 usd more expensive than the maximus formula VII and 4790k + 16gb od ddr3 ram at 2100mhz... sooo. what to do?

This rig is for gaming, and i do not like to uppgrade that often... and since ddr4 will be the new standard in the future.. this would last a while.

X99 is technically better, but considering the difference can be made greater than $20...

The cheapest Haswell-E chip (5820k) is $390--$50 more than a 4790k. A Z97 board that supports SLI (MSI Z97 G55 SLI Plus) can be had for $120 vs. the cheapest X99 board, which is like $250. The difference should be at least $300.

x99 board + 5820k + 16gb ram = $950~ USD

Z97 board + 4790k + 16gb ram = $600~ USD.

But you could also get a cheaper motherboard and get the exact same performance as the Maximus.

DDR4 is no better than DDR3 atm, just more expensive. Also, if you're just gaming than 8gb is plenty.

Well... im going offshore for two weeks due to work... so don't know what will happen in the next two weeks.. if the price drops a lot on the parts.. well... its kinda though to decide... :P

CPU prices will never drop (not for a few years anyway), and motherboard prices won't drop for months-a year from now. The only thing that will drop is the DDR4, and that will take months.

ok not quite 20 usd... but i lookied into the same store to order from there... since shipping is a biatch where i live... but will check in on price diffs to stores in two weeks

Theres no way the difference is even close to $20. Theres at least a $300 difference.

i mean the price of z97 hardware.... since there is such a minor difference in price... well.... any input on that... and since it launched today (here at least) there is no update on sites that finds the cheapest deal for you yet.

What?

There isn't/shouldnt be a minor price difference.

If the difference is only like $20 you might seriously want to check things out since the difference should be around $300.

For me... to buy the specs ive written... the max span in price diff is 200 usd... and that is not a big difference....hell the asus x99-s is cheaper than the asus maximus formula VII

You don't need a maximus. Its overpriced and yields absolutely no performance benefits over something cheaper like an MSI Z97 G55 SLI

Thing is tho... will i benefit from going x99 for the future? or will an 4790k and a gtx 780 be enough for gaming for a while?

You should get an R9 290 instead of a 780. And by the time the 2 additional cores of the 5820k will really come into play, the 780s and 5820k will both be outdated and under powered anyway.

aiight... so going z97 then... Why R9 290?

Its $100 less and just as powerful, not to mention it will run 1440p+ resolutions better than the 780 due to its higher amount of VRAM.

Was thinking of the XFX for amd card or the Evga for gtx,,, The amd/Nvidia fight is kinda useless... the 4780 i have now... is a blowdryer.. whilse the 8800gt i had loong ago was quiet as hell...

Ive heard nothing but trouble from XFX cards, and non-reference cards have become quite quiet and cool.
