YouTube on chrome crashes computer

Has anyone come across this issue for when you watch a youtube video, your computer sort of does a blue screen of death (only not, see picture) the computer then becomes unresponsive and can only work after restarting from the front IO reset button?

 

 

Bear in mind this only happens when watching youtube videos and it does not happen always.. (look below for system specs)

 

Also while Im making this thread, does anyone know how to rescale the UEFI BIOS on start up? it's too big to fit all the text onto my 1080p monitor 

 

CPU: I7 4770 

GPU: R9 290 windforce OC ed. 

Mobo: Z87 Gryphon 

RAM: Hyper X Kingston 1600mhz @16gb

OS: Win 8.1 64x pro

 

(computer stable when folding on High for long periods of time)

 

If you need any more information please tell me, because playing Russian roulette every time I attempt to watch a video sucks

Disable hardware acceleration in chrome. It's in advanced settings.

I will give that a go again, I think I tried it before and it did not solve the issue

Same problem. I have a temporary solution that works for me. Install Youtube center https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki manually.

With it I force Player type under Player to HTML5 and DASH Playback checked. For me it stopped the bluescreens. However this is temporary as Chrome disables extensions that's not in the Chrome webstore.

I heard you can permanently install unapproved extensions by installing Tampermonkey then installing the userscript version of youtube center. I haven't tried it though cause I'm too lazy.

so even though i turned off the hardware acceleration, it still happens
