I'm not sure where to put this so I'm just going to put it here, my sister would like a laptop that she can do her university homework and also do a bit of light gaming, things like civ 5. She wants to spend £500.

OP, if your sister can increase the budget by about 100 euros, you'll get way better performance-per-dollar. If not then Acer has some laptops with a dedicated GPU, but they're not worth the price IMO, which is the point of my first statement.
