Looking for a laptop

jd2195

I am looking for a new laptop at the moment as I only have my desktop and then an iPad 2 which is showing its age now. I would like to keep it below £500 but I can stretch to £600 if something looks good enough. The laptop will mainly be used for word processing, web browsing and other everyday tasks but I may also use it for some very light gaming at some points. I have picked out a few options at the moment which are these:

http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/ultraNoteII-15/: 1080p IPS, i3 4110m, 4gb RAM, 500GB Seagate SSHD, the rest stock

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00H52J2WI/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2?pf_rd_p=479289247&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00FC55UX0&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=14Q948MSDA42FJXMBZKK

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-X552CL-15-6-inch-Laptop-Black/dp/B00GJQ28M2 (with the i3)

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/acer-aspire-e1-572g-15-6-laptop-22070765-pdt.html

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/laptops-netbooks/laptops/laptops/hp-pavilion-15-n268sa-15-6-laptop-black-silver-21862441-pdt.html

There are a few different options there, the only reason I would go with the top one is because of the 1080p IPS panel but I am not sure if that is even worth it for the price if I am not going to be gaming on it properly.

Thanks for any opinions.

Is this for schoolwork? If so I'd strongly recommend trying a MacBook Air unless you're strongly opposed. The build quality is fantastic, it's extremely light and the battery life is very long. On top of that, their education pricing is very good and their warranties are as well.

I would love to get a macbook air and I have been looking at getting a refurbished one but even then they are still too expensive.

That's rather unfortunate. Keep your eye out for deals, sometimes you can find them relatively cheap.

I'd recommend a ThinkPad of some sort in that case. Maybe a T440? Is that still too expensive?

Still too much. I really cannot go above £600

I don't think they're that good. In my opinion Lenovo makes the best PCs out there. Acer makes a really nice ultrabook, the Aspire S7 but I believe it's out of your price range.

What about this one? It seems to have some pretty good reviews. The hardware is last gen for the CPU and GPU, will that cause any problems?

What I also like about this one is that it has 1 spare RAM slot and a space for an SSD as well if I want to upgrade it.

This shit is annoying, how is upgrading a desktop going to help someone who needs to do work when they aren't home.
