Patchy connection w/ Atheros AR9485

My laptop has a AR9485 (1x1, 802.11n) card and it's been quite annoying recently. It always is connected to my wifi network (802.11n D-Link, on 2.4GHz) but without displaying any sort of yellow triangle signifying limited connection, it can't connect to the internet. It usually says Downloading proxy script..., all web browsers are the same. All other devices (iPad mini (5.0GHz), Nexus 5 (5.0GHz), Tab4 (2.4GHz)) can connect just fine when my laptop starts acting up.

I've tried resetting network stack multiple times, but usually to no avail. I re-inserted the card and re-tightened it today and it seemed to work well for 30minutes before reverting.

Any ideas? I just bought a MX100 512GB to replace the failing Seagate drive in the laptop and I would prefer not to spend $30 for a 7260 AC card, as excellent as the card would be.

is it your Dell laptop?

the Win 8 drivers for it can be buggy

try using the win 7 drivers

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

no it's the asus K55A that's had tons of hard drive troubles over the past 2 weeks (i5-3210M, HM76, Win 7)

the 14 7000 hasn't even arrived yet, and it uses 7260-N. I'm thinking of getting a 7260-AC to replace the Atheros if all else fails

!!

That's not the site where I got it from. I got the official Qualcomm installer. That site is a fake, and when you download the drivers it gives you a whole bunch of random files in a .zip.

I had to dig around but Windows Update says it can't find a better driver for the AR9485.
