I'm currently in the process of putting together a mid-range gaming pc, but I'm also currently looking to build a cheap pc around $600 or less for everyday computing and such to replace an old one as well as to get a refresher. I found some parts that seem decent, although I went overkill on the power supply because it's a great deal and I could take it out and use it on another build later on. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the parts I picked as well as any recommendations for alternate parts that would be better in the long run.

Should do fine for light gaming, don't expect to play Battlefield or anything though. (atleast BF4)

I used to have a similar rig (with APU) and it did well for me, It's always good to have a dedicated GPU though, maybe think about saving another month or 2 and getting an AMD R7 260x or something.

Similar CPU performance with better GPU performance for less, http://pcpartpicker.com/p/KqXYRB same PSU and Case. Adjust Etailers to your preference.

No offense Lord Pantaloons, but I've had... well let's say some bad experiences with Athlon processors... If anything, I'd rather go with an FX 6300.

The A10's are basically the same thing with a better iGPU and a clock bump.

Well... Now that you bring that up, could anyone pick parts for a build with an FX-6300 for less than $600?

pretty unnecessary though considering the use case for the system.

Well, that kicks the crap out of what I had originally came up with, except that I'd probably reuse an old optical drive and throw a bit more money into the ram to get a recognizable brand... And the case is for style points because if it's not a beast, I'd at least throw a few extra bucks to make it look more appealing...

No offense, but it seems that sacrificing so much for an ssd isn't worth it. Not to mention that the FX-6300 is better bang for the buck since you get more cores and a higher clock. Besides, it'd be better to run two 4gb sticks of ram so that they would run in dual channel mode.

You would see a much greater difference in performance by installing an SSD over dual RAM modules - ask literally anyone who has experienced an SSD.

An i3 will do your every day job fine, the FX 6300 is more suited to the medium build. At almost double the TDP for barely 20%~ gain, I don't see it as worth it personally.

Would it make you feel better if I made it fit a 760?

I'd be impressed if you could fit a 760 in it along with a cpu that didn't make me want to commit suicide every time I thought about it.
