When do you know you need a better processor

Go to solution Solved by TheRunningOtaku,

4k would require very expensive and high-end GPUs (like R9-290X or 780TI)

your CPU should be fine, however, for another few years.

How to tell if you need a new CPU: If the CPU usage is at 95-100% on games, and/or if it gets really really hot, hotter than it usually is (that's a bad sign)

Hello guys, im new to to the forum and i have a question.

I was wondering, with all the new processors coming out as well as 4K and everything will i need a new processor soon.

I currently have a Intel I7 870 over clocked to 4.0 ghz, on a maximus III formula MB (which i think was an overkill as far as motherboards go).

The rest of the system is as follows.

Asus TOP gtx 660 ti OC 1225 and 6590.

12gbs of ram ( Kingston blue at 1333(2x2gb) and Kingston hyper at 1600 (2x4gb)

Case is a CM HAF 912 plus

PSU CM GX 750

cpu cooler is a CM HYPER EVO 212 with two CM Excaliburs on it.

I think this is enough info for you to help me.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you guys, i was thinking of replacing the MB and tHE cpu in about 2-3 years, once the dust settles with 4k and everything.

I don't dont any video editing, i do a bit a sound editinng, but i mostly play games.

I didn't mention the temps for the CPU they are 50c on idle and 80c at full load in the summer, and 10c less in the winter. i think that's more or less safe.

And as far as CPU usage goes i think it never goes over 50%, if even that in some of the most demanding games like Max Payne 3, BF3, Hitman absolution etc.

and once again thank you!

Whenever the one you bought doesn't serve your purpose any more. I'm running an i7 870 in my tower and an i3-3227u, both work fine for what I need so I won't be upgrading until I'm forced to either by sluggish performance or having to buy a new motherboard that doesn't support my processor. I'm using a mobo from an old HP machine so pitty me ;)

If I remember correctly my mobo is the MSI 2A9C. The thing has no features, no drivers on the web and a terrible design but as I never see it I don't care.
