Hi!

I'm in the process of upgrading my system, and i need a CPU, Motherboard & RAM that works well together. It will be used for videoediting, 3D & gaming. The budget is 1200USD, give or take.

Would appreciate any suggestions and tips :D

Thanks!

Get a WS board, you'll thank yourself later.

Edit: also 770/780 is a great GPU if your using CUDA, if not then 290/290x is good.

My System Specs: (Short list) i7 4770k, GTX 780, many SSD's, a 2 TB HDD(deceased :( ), Corsair 650D. Full list: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/kchriz6097/saved/8dh7YJ

Upgrade Plan: Acquire some Black Noctuas then add 16 or 32GB of 2133MHz memory

Hi!

I'm in the need of some help with the upgrading of my system. I am soon starting school and needs a computer able to do 3D, videoediting, photoediting etc. The computer will also be used for gaming. Most of the system is very good and won't need replacing/upgrading, the parts that do is the CPU, Motherboard & RAM. I wanna go for the i7-4770K as the CPU, and 32GB of RAM, but besides that it's completely open. I need everything to be reliable and compatible and i do love useful features :D . Budget is pretty much everything besides ridiculous.  I would appreciate any tips or suggestions.

Thanks! :)

Mmm... without a clear budget it's kinda hard to say :P So what monitor are you using (1 monitor, 3 monitors, resolution?) and do you need any other stuff like keyboard, mouse etc?

Also since you are upgrading, it will be good if you can show me your current system so I know which part you can keep and what's not.

What is your max budget besides "everything that is not ridiculous" and what is you build right now?

I would say about 1200USD, for those three components.

Current build:

CPU: i5-3570K

RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengeance

Motherboard: MSI MPower Z77 LGA-1155

GPU: EVGA GTX 770 2GB

Storage: 500GB WD HDD, 1TB Seagate Barracuda

PSU: Corsair CX600M(will be upgraded to a 850W PSU)

LOL... that's far from "everything that's not ridiculous" xD And I'm making a 3k$ build for you :P

Anyway, if that's the case:

CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X61 106.1 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($136.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: MSI Z97-G45 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($129.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $902.95

Around that. But to be honest I dont think you need 32GB ram, so I'd suggest this instead:

Motherboard: MSI Z97-G45 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($129.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: MSI Radeon R9 290 4GB TWIN FROZR Video Card  ($369.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $1116.95

Or a 780 (I like Nvidia more :P ) 3 or 6GB version depend on what you are doing with it (screen resolution, rendering requirement etc)

Thanks for the list! Looks pretty good.

16gb might be enough, yes, but want to make one considerable upgrade now, so wanna go as high as i can, which is 32gb.

If that is your current pc, then I would suggest looking for an i7 3770K and an extra 8GB of Ram...job done. No need to spend on a new platform.

It's better for you now to get 2x8 GB Ram, so if you ever actually need 32 you can just buy another 2x8 GB ram.

You don't really need to change the motherboard and probably not the cpu. I would suggest adding a second kit of memory that is the same speed as the already installed kit, and a large ssd.

This build is more than enough for school work. You would only need an i7 if you were getting into large 3D projects. Most video & photo editing software will make use of the gpu for much of its heavy work.

The advantage of this approach is that later on when you get deeper into the work you will be able to take advantage of newer tech.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Just upgrade the CPU in your current rig to a 3770K and ram if you want
