Win 8 And Win 7

Go to solution Solved by BonBon Scott,

also if it helps the laptop is sh*t but the desktop has ssd and r9 290 and 16gb ram so yeah speed

With that much power I'd suggest Windows 7, but I'm slightly bias because I have an irrational hate for the Metro interface.

Even though Windows 8 is better in most cases.

So I have both a laptop and am in the middle of building a desktop and have a key to both win 8 and win7, which should go on which do you reckon?

Laptop -- Windows 7

Desktop -- Windows 8

Some will disagree, but I have seen slight performance increases with Windows 8 for gaming as opposed to Windows 7.

Windows 8.1

That doesn't answer his question, read OP again.

Well, Windows 8 runs better and boots quicker, I believe. But, I prefer the Windows 7 because it just works and that's what I want. I don't want to have to change settings to get rid of that dual Desktop/Metro thing.

Interestingly enough, my Windows 8.1 boots directly to desktop, even though I never set it to.

Ah, interesting. I think that it does that if there is just a single non-password protected account. Windows 8 is better than Windows 7 in most cases, but I know Windows 7 well and I'm too much of a lazy oaf to try and use Windows 8. I <3 Start buttons.

You can install windows 8 and then  update it to windows 8.1

My answer was 8.1, because I wouldn't recommend any of the choices he mentioned-

It still doesn't answer his question. He has a single copy of Windows 7 and Windows 8. Of course, he would end up upgrading his Windows 8 to 8.1, but your answer doesn't satisfy the question in any quantity.

Either will do the job fine, but the Metro on Win8 is a bugger. You can kind of get rid of it, using Classic Shell i've heard.
