So I've been playing around with turning on and off mouse acceleration and having it off just feels so weird to me. I've hear Linus saying that it's really bad for gaming, which I'm sure it is, but for some reason, it just feels outright worse. Anyone else have this feeling too or is it just me? If it makes a difference, I'm using a cheap no-name gaming mouse but I don't think it should. To put it in other words, it feels much more natural to have acceleration on.

I had acceleration on (default is on low) and turning it off was really off-putting for me, though I've gotten used to it being off and now I don't mind it at all.

Probably because you're used to having it on, but the truth is having it off will allow you to build muscle memory and in time you'll find it significantly better having it disabled after that initial period of getting used to it.

Definitely this. When I turned it off I felt every time I started to move my mouse to aim, the camera would be too fast (due to the mouse acceleration before making it pretty slow at first.) But my aim improved 10 fold after getting used to it. It's amazing how much muscle memory can make a difference.

I prefer it off. took me a few months to learn to play with it on. You prefer whatever yo used first likely. Nothing wrong with it. Though I will say if you bite the bullet and convert in a couple of months you will be more accurate. It's easier to predict where your mouse ends up with a  fixed rate of motion relative to the movement rather than acceleration. Basically when you flip around you'll find you be shooting people in the face more quickly and often.

I even prefer it for non gaming. Idk I just tend to miss buttons and stuff with acceleration more often, even after using it for months.
