Sudden power-off

Hello.

I recently brought an old PC back from the dead (I don't think it's a zombie, it doesn't look like it), it boots into Windows XP just fine, but after running it for a while, it powers itself off.

Any ideas? Could the CPU be overheating?

Either an overheat, or an incompatible power supply.

The PSU is a SeaSonic S12 II 430W. I'm quite sure that it's compatible, it's an old Pentium 4 system, the mobo has a 20-pin connector, the hard disk is SATA, it has 2 optical drives, both are PATA (IDE).

I will replace the thermal compound tomorrow.

Yeah, PSU compatibility issues are rare, but I only assumed that because JayzTwoCents on YouTube had a similar issue with his recent build.

Use HWMonitor to check the Temps and voltages.

Check the cabling and that nothing is shortcutting the power off or cables touching the MB and messing with it. Also check in the BIOS if their is a fail safe temp to turn off, check and see if the temp has not been lowered then 75 - 90, the values vary depending on specs and company.

Okay, so I replaced the thermal compound on the CPU, now it shuts down when booting Windows. I think I'll replace the mobo, CPU and RAM. Also going to buy a PATA host adapter.
