Ethernet loses connection

Go to solution Solved by LarsReviews,

The problem was solved. The Fritzbox which is used for DSL and then goes to the router has a hardware related issue. The lan jack is broken, even though it wasn't touched for the last years. This caused it to crash and that also made the 2nd router crash. My PC is the only one with a static IP so that is why mostly my PC was having that issue.

We got a new Fritzbox, the 7940 which replaces the dual router setup. Now everything is fine again.

Thank you for your help.

Edit: ups, I mean 7490

Hi,

I have a Asus Z87a Motherboard and I use the onboard NIC. From time to time the Windows Ethernet symbol shows a yellow dot and I have no connection, To fix this I either have to restart my PC or deactivate and activate the NIC in the Device Manager, I already tried a different driver and I have reinstalled it a couple of time with no luck. I don't know what to do now.

I would say it has to do with your modem/router/Internet service provider. Bad ISPs then to drop connection from time to time, and a reconnect usually helps (like what you do to deactivate and reactivate)

If you dont have this problem on any other devices then it could be your NIC itself. Hard to be sure though.

It is the only device I have that issue with.

Have you tried uninstalling the network driver and reinstalling a potentially updated one? Keep in mind you should have it already downloaded, or have a device that you will be able to transfer it from in the event it doesn't automatically try to reinstall or something goes wrong with it.

Go to the manufacture website and install their given driver for ethernet.

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z87A/HelpDesk_Download/    Click on Driver and Tools then your OS and find LAN and download the latest one.

try flushing tcp connections its really simple and could fix the problem.

So windows button then type CMD then left click it and run as admin

then type ipconfig /flushdns ( let it do its thing )

then type ipconfig /release

then type ipconfig /renew

see if that helps any

Sorry about the late reply. The issue got better since doing that. But it seems, as if this also has something to do with my switch. I have 1 LAN cable going to my room, which goes into the switch. From there is goes into a AP and my PC. My sister uses my Wifi and has also experienced some problems, but to always when I have them.

That does not flush connections.

/flushdns clears out you're local DNS cache

/release releases the DHCP lease on the IP the system currently ahs

/renew sends a new DHCP request from the system to the DHCP server to request a new IP address.

go HAM on them Network Adapters!

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew
nbtstat -R
nbtstat -RR
netsh int reset all
netsh int ip reset
netsh winsock reset

lol no don't, unless you want to. I just had a text document saved "NIC Nuke" with all these commands in case I forget.

You're missing a super important step... restarting the PC. If you run netsh int ip reset, you NEED to restart. Essentially what it does is uninstall the TCP/IP stack, and schedule it's reinstallation for next boot. Other than that, yeah, that will effectively nuke the shit out of your NIC settings. I should point out thought, the NBTSTAT -R, and -RR aren't entirely needed anymore, unless you're on an old system, using a WINS server.

Yep, restart is an important step. Just not in my notes as I should know that, but will add that to the notes for sharing purposes lol.

Just script it in to the end of the NIC nuke, and you won't have to worry about doing it manually :P
