I just copied the 'questions' from the "Build Plan Thread Recommendations" it seems to cover everything.

first my build at the moment: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/8CPVmG

1. Budget & Location
First my budget. I've got the mentality "when spending money, do it right" so around €1500 and I live in the netherlands.

When comparing the prices from a local vendor with the ones on partpicker, the conversion dollar to euro is about 1:1  so $1500 is fine too.

2. Aim
First gaming, triple A games such as witcher 2, dragonage inquisition (if it's good :P) and such.
second, I'm studying electrical engineering so it will be probebly also be used for data processsing 3D/4D signals (filtering images/video) and probably also 2D signals (sound).

3. Monitors
At first one 1080p monitor and maybe  a second one in the future, but the second screen won't be for gaming but for watching youtube or browsing while gaming (or being able to open many pdf's while doing research :P )

4. Peripherals
I'll get the OS (8.1 probably, because I read that the support for win7 will stop soon... :(  ) via another cheap way and keyboard and mouse I will buy at a store close by, because i want to feel how it handles. (the prices for these things do not count for the $1500)

5. Why are you upgrading?
I'm upgrading from my laptop (which is still 'okey' though i7-2630QM 2GHz with nvidia quatro 1000M and runs most things on low/normal settings with some tweaking in the options) is getting 98 degrees celcius when gaming... it melted all kinds of stuff like chocolat and plastic... And I want to experience games with the 'proper' visuals ^^

The reason for the i7 and not a i5 is. I'm guessing in the near future games will be getting optimized for more than 4 threads. (maybe because of the 8 cores for xbone and ps4 I read somewhere)

another note, i took this motherboard because i wanted to be able to do SLI in the future when this single GPU won't do anymore (getting the same GPU then for a cheap price) and maybe ill try a little overclocking. (ill get a proper fan later if ill be doing that)

Ok guys fire away ;)

Thanks in advance!

Even when games are optimized to fully utilize hyperthreading, the difference probably won't be worth the extra money unless you already have the best gpu configuration possible or just have extra money to blow. Currently, there's generally little difference between the i5 and i7 for gaming and it's quite a gamble to blow extra money without any solid indication that games will perform much better even when the extra cores are leveraged. Games are still mostly gpu bound.

Don't use the US pcpartpicker if you're shopping elsewhere. Which shops are you actually using?

Actually 1,500 Euro is more equal to $2,000. I will go ahead and use the $2000 USD budget and then convert it when coming up with a build list.Oh, and for future reference, you can use xe.com to calculate exchange rates. Also, Intel CPUs have Hyper threading, which doubles the transfer rate of information sent to and from the CPU, technically giving it twice as many cores without it having more cores.

ow sorry I see i wasn't clear.

I meant why that brand and why that one, why not another?

It performs great for the price and is probably the #1 most recommended cooler on forums because of this.

probs a stupid question, but should i buy thermalpaste seperate or is it included with a cooling system?

I think ill stick with the Corsair 400R or is this case alot better for for example cooling?

Also i read on multiple sites that you won't need more than 8GB for gaming, why the 16GB?

about the vidcard:

I was thinking about buying a gtx780 (oc) now and then in about a year a second one. Then the new 800 series is out and hopfully the 780 will be alot cheaper.

Or should i do the same but with a gtx780ti -> is it worth the extra 150 euro (per card) when running 1 monitor at 1080p?

Already thanks alot, gave me some things to reconcider and think about my choices :)

The 212 Evo comes with good paste. No need for aftermarket paste.

They're similar for cooling but the Arc Mini is quieter.

It's only 8GB. They're 4GB sticks for a total of 8GB.

The 780 Ti is not worth the extra money. Why get the 780 when the 290 is cheaper and just as good if not better?

The ram question was for jtrier1, he had 16GB in his build, but you sorta answered the question already and confirmed that 8GB is enough (btw, increasing ram later on isn't that big of a deal)

When googling around for 780 and 290 comparison the only thing i found was fanboyism, raging people and that they are about the same.

I think i'll stick with nvidia for the moment, the price is almost the same for my country (only ~30 euro's more for 780) and i've had good experience with nvidia so far.

Thanks alot for the advice :)

You can use the 400R if you like, And I put the 16GB because you're also wanting to do 2d/3d data processing, and the extra memory would help with that.
