Currently, with my Kraken X60 and 4670K, I get temps of around 55 degrees with Prime95. I have the ASUS Z97-PRO mobo so I use the auto overclocking feature and no matter what I select (box cooler, tower cooler, water cooler) my temps instantly double. I get temps of about 95-100 degrees. I've reseated my cooler at least 10 times and the temps never change so I don't think that's the problem. I've also reseated my CPU as well.

Is my cooler bad or does my CPU just hate being overclocked?

Thanks

Asus auto-overclocking is clocking the cpu until like 100c load. So it is normal.

You should have option in z97 boards to choose target temp?

It's perfectly normal. The auto oc targets a certain temperature (which can be manually set) and ocs until that temp is reached. Just set it to something like 70c and you won't getover that.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

Wow, I feel dumb now. What would you guys recommend as a target temp?

70-85

Current rig: CPU: AMD FX-8120  Cooling: Corsair H100i  Mobo: ASRock 970 Extreme 3  RAM: 8GB 1333Mhz  GPU: MSI GTX 660Ti Power Edition  Case: Fractal Design Define R4  Storage: 2TB Seagate HDD + 128GB Crucial SSD  PSU: be quiet! 730W bronze

Sorry if this sounds stupid, but after reading up on this more, the only thing setting the temp limit does is make the CPU fan run at max at certain thresholds. There's no actual way to limit the CPU temps. Is that true or am I missing something?

I wouldn't go over 70-75 degrees on a Haswell i5 under full load.

Why not?

With stock cooler you can reach like +85c temps in heavy loads.

When you choose the automatic overclocking in AI suite it should ask for stuff like target clockspeed, max voltage and target temps or something like that?

Are you sure your mobo is not Z87-Pro because it is missing those features and Z97-Pro has them.

I'm positive I have the Z97-Pro but I'm not seeing any of the options you're talking about.
