I'd like to pick up a new tablet for taking notes--math notes especially--So, handwritten.

I'm considering the Galaxy Note 8.0" as I think it is the best option for note taking due to its s-pen integration and that you can disable the touch screen when using the pen (so you can rest your palm on the screen while writing).

Does anyone have any first hand experience? Is it that much better for hand writing notes?

Note: I'm probably going to try and pick one up off of ebay for $100~.

Well, considering the galaxy note can be had for quite a bit less (on ebay), I'm leaning more towards it.

I know it is probably out of your price range, but the surface pro 3 is worth a look as it also replaces your laptop, making the price much more palatable.

Well, I recently got a new laptop, so something to replace that wouldn't help me in anyway.

I'm mainly after something to replace my normal paper notebook for notes, so I'd really rather not spend more than $100 due to the "limited" use.

it's a very dedicated device, but this looks promising: http://www.amazon.com/Boogie-Board-Inch-Writing-Tablet/dp/B005ZPZ5XW

Or this: http://www.amazon.com/Boogie-Board-9-7-Inch-eWriter-ST1020001/dp/B00E8CIGCA/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

if you get either of these, let me know as I'd actually consider one of them after some observation.

From what i've "heard" the Note 8's s-pen and it's apps are quite good at recognition. Although getting a definitive answer/comparison from someone trustworthy is hard...

But, considering the Note 8" and either boogie board are very similar in price, I think I'd be better off with the former.

my mother has the note 3 and it does decently with handwriting, but I am pretty bad at handwriting anyways, so I'll stick to pen/pencil and paper

decently.... As in theres a decent amount of input lag, or just doesn't recognize inputs 100% of the time... any idea how it does with math as opposed to writing since they're pretty different...

Also, have you used a stylus on another device? -- does the digitizer/s-pen and its apps give the note any significant advantage over another tablet with a third-party stylus?
