Budget (including currency): $700 or less

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: No gaming. CPU-heavy work - multi-tasking with live video chat, stylus and drawing pad, whiteboard app, pdf reader, browser, etc. Nothing crazy, just ought to be reliable

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

This is for a relative who runs a tutoring business.

Specific asks:

  • Keep it small. I chose ITX form factor for that.
  • Keep integrated graphics, unless you think there's a compelling reason to switch for this use case
  • Suggestions to save $$ would be particularly welcome
    • I'd love to save some overhead on the CPU, but I'm not confident enough in comparing CPUs to pare it down.
  • Dual monitors, webcam, other peripherals already owned
  • Windows license needed; included in list.
  • ASAP purchase. Current laptop is inadequate.

No matter what, anything would be a massive upgrade. She's currently scraping by on a Pentium N6000 (with 40GB of RAM??!!?!? - I have no logical explanation for this but open to hear ideas).

Thank you all!

I'd also suggest considering mini-pcs, like a minisforum UM790 Pro or even a mac mini. The UM790 Pro seem great for the aforementioned use case, it's 400$ for the barebones model, comes with an 8 core ryzen 9 7940HS with solid integrated graphics with support for up to 4 displays, 2xHDMI and 2 through the USB 4 ports, 2 SSD slots and 2 sodimm memory slots which you'll need to buy memory and storage at additional cost since it's a barebones model.
