I recently got a 5070 for an amazing deal and its a greater card then I planned to get, too great in fact. My cpu is lagging behind in high refresh rate titles actually losing fps wise to my friend with a 3060 but Ryzen 9. Unacceptable. My motherboard is an ancient b450 so I assumed staying on am4 wouldn’t be the move but my 5500 or rather the 7600, the default option when I researched, isn’t that much faster then what I have to warrant roughly ~700 aud for a new motherboard, ddr5 ram and a nice cooler. That being said my current combo is bottom shelf value parts that where cheapest in the their class and the new stuff is decent/midrange (tuf series mobo, be quiet tower cooler and 32gb ram) so an upgrade of luxury as well. Is it worth upgrading for the newer platform and slightly better speeds or should I thug it out until the 5500 becomes obsolete and my 5070 is no longer new and shiny OR secret option c where I go intel, stay on am4 or once again buy bottom barrel parts which I now recognise as a mistake long term. I recognise I could also buy a ryzen 7 but yikes 500 dollars.

You can bandaid it with a 5700X3D drop in, for 429 AUD.  Or go the full AM5 route as you note for 800 AUD for 9600X combo.  Maybe find a sale?

No Intel.

As a side note, not sure how much better a 5600/5600x is over the 5500.  If you sold 5500 to make up cost.

FYI, the 7600 beats the 5500 by a good bit.  Architecture, etc.
