Good list actually.  I would run Windows free though, or get a key for under $20 on Ebay, etc.

That PSU I do not know, so others may weigh in on that.

Looking for any way I could further optimise my $ for performance and if there are going to be any problems with compatability that PC part picker may have missed.

Thanks!

That's very messy. How about a pcpartpicker list?

Though, if I read carefully, everything looks good.

There is a BB link from Partpicker in a comment below the post, I don't know that was the standard way to share build lists.

Yeah, it's cleaner to simply look at, but it allows us to either go into your list and edit it to tweak, or click each item and get more info.

pcpartpicker is the goods, straight up.

Do you know if that motherboard is going to cause any trouble? I truly don't understand what the difference between all the motherboards are but there seems to be a very wide range of prices, and I just kinda picked one on the cheaper end.

So there are motherboard Tiers.  For AMD...

X870 - Top end for AM5 (released with 9xxx series Ryzen), usually better I/O with Gen 5 GPU and Gen 5 SSD slots, more robust power delivery, etc.

B850 - Mainstream boards, usually Gen 5 SSD, may or may not have Gen 5 GPU, decent I/O, power delivery, etc.  Used to be the B line was the cheap/cut back, but with AM5 the B lines are able to handle any CPU and are overbuilt.

X670 - Similar to X870 above, but released with the 7xxx series Ryzen.  Has an E flavor for extra rawr.

B650 - Similar to B850 above, same thing with 7xxx series.  Some are even more stout than the X870 line.

A620 - Basic buld boards, will run it's relevant CPU well but may not handle further generations as well.

Basically, any B650/B850 will handle any Ryzen now or in the new few generations.  Like how a B450 can handle any AM4 CPU as a rule.

Just look at I/O (USB, any connectors, etc), Gen 5 GPU or SSD needs, and VRM power and cooling to compare.

My Gigabyte B650 AORUS Pro AX will handle any AM5 cpu released I wager, though I am limited to Gen 4 PCIe.  But since we haven't saturated Gen 4 yet, I am unconcerned.

  • 2 weeks later...

Having difficulties, not sure if I'm better off starting a new thread, I am doing the first power up test out of the case and my GPU fans come on for a second, then they stop and the VGA led lights up. I've taken everything apart and put it back together. Not really sure what to try next.

Definitely start a new thread, sounds complex
