Hello all

I have a Palit GeForce RTX 3060 StormX right now and I want to upgrade to a 50-series card, but I don't know which one to choose. I was hoping to get some recommendations. My budget is about 600–800 USD. My power supply is 800W but a brown 80+, so not the best.

I want to use it for gaming and i have a 1440p monitor with 165hz, so some game today cant run well and get some lag, i want to get the most from my monitor

Well, buy the fastest RTX 5000 GPU you can afford 😄

What exactly is your PSU and what is the rest of your system?

Do you NEED nvidia? right now the market suggests that AMD has better offerings in the mid range, like the 9070 XT. Although prices are so screwed up right now, it's hard to recommend anything without knowing the price you actually can buy it for. Consult performance charts to make a better decision.

The advice right now seems to be to buy a 9070XT (If the price is right) , not the 9070 non XT. This chart just has more comparisons, so that's why I'm  showing it.

I live in Sweden, and prices here aren't great. I have a rough estimate based on what I've seen online and what I can afford right now. Just to give you a reference: I've seen the 5090 range from around 2000 up to 3500 US here..., but the "reasonably" cards go for around 600 to 800 US.

I have allway had Nividia but seeing that i might jump to team red, but i still would like to hear your recommendations

I definitely want to know more about that power supply.

When you get home, figure out exactly what it is 🙂

The CPU is going to show some age but at 1440p that matters less, you should be getting good framerate nontheless.

Upgrading from a 3060 will do you good!

I live in Norway too so I know how prices are here!

Get either a 9070XT or a 5070Ti (more expensive but NGreedia) -  5070 is okayish but not great

Performance wise, in your budget, get the 5070 Ti if you can, otherwise 9070 XT. The 9070 (non XT) is just slightly faster than the 5070 (non TI), and has an extra 4GB of VRAM which will allow you to keep the card for a couple more years than the 12GB on the 5070.

If you were to choose between the 9070 non XT and 5070 non TI, you would weigh between how much you value NVIDIA technology vs futureproofing with AMD's extra VRAM.

I just got home and saw my PSU and its a MSI MPG A650GF, think i need to uppgrade it too....

That depends on the card you upgrade to and the rest of the system. A locked 10th gen i5 doesn't draw much power, and the latest generation of cards, outside of the 5090, are not particularly power hungry.

The recommended PSU for the 9070 XT and the 5070 Ti is only 700W. Given the rest of your system, a 650W should be fine for now. Although you would probably want to upgrade the PSU when you get a new CPU.

You are probably right, but I was thinking more in terms of future proofing. If I get maybe an 850W PSU and upgrade my CPU maybe next year, I'll most likely need a new motherboard too and ram. So getting a new PSU today along with the GPU might be the best choice, but it all depends on which GPU I end up buying.....

So many choices, but not enough money....

May be worth looking into bundles if you are worried about your PSU. If you happen to be in Canada Memory Express usually has Bundles of GPU's and PSU's that help the horrific cost of GPU's.

There are a couple right now for like 1K Canadian for a 5070 and a 850 PSU.

Either a 5070 (underbudget and only 12GB of VRAM which is terrible for $500+) or the RTX 5070ti for ~$20 overbudget.
