I need to contact someone regarding the fact that I can't play any of my games on Epic or Xbox that have Anti-Cheat.  So far, I have reformated my PC 6 times.  This last time I wiped everything.  I only loaded Windows, Nvidia and Xbox.  I downloaded Sea of Thieves from the Microsoft store.  When I tried to play it told me that "Launch Error Unrecognized game client.  Cannot continue".    I think I have tried about everything, I've had others try about everything (aka Rare, Xbox support, Windows Support)

What have I done to fix it you may say, well I wrote Rare and they gave me several ideas and none of those worked.

(1) I have
Select Files and then Verify and repair through the game,. no luck.

(2)  I spent probably 2 hours with Xbox support yesterday where I let them "take control" of my PC.  Where they did this.

  • Xbox App, Microsoft Store, and Game Services:

    • Terminated, reset, and repaired the Xbox app, Microsoft Store, and affected games.

    • Reinstalled Gaming Services.

    • Cleared system and app cache.

  • System Configuration:

    • Performed a clean boot to eliminate third-party software conflicts.

    • Unenrolled from Xbox Insider Program preview features.

    • Reset relevant Windows services.

    • Created and tested with a local user account.

    • Restarted the PC after each major step.

  • File and System Integrity:

    • Verified game and system files.

    • Recommended and initiated an in-place upgrade of Windows to repair any underlying OS issues without affecting personal files or apps.

(3)  I then did an "in place upgrade" No luck.

(4)  I then spent an hour online with Windows support today and they "took contol" and tried to fix it and couldn't find anything and at the end they just suggested I reinstall Windows again.  Which I did and that didn't help.

(5)  I then decided to do a complete factory reset on my PC and try again and still I'm getting the "Launch Error Unrecognized game client.  Cannot continue".

I am noticing that in the EasyAnticheat folder the "exe" file is missing.

(6) I tried doing the following at around "reformat #4.  The Xbox rep tried it yesterday as well.

 Find the Easy Anti-Cheat Installer

  • Go to the folder where your game is installed (this is called the root directory).

  • Inside that folder, look for a subfolder called "EasyAntiCheat".

  • You should see two files in there:

    • EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe

    • Settings.json

Get the Product ID

  • Open the file called Settings.json (you can right-click > Open with > Notepad).

  • Look for a line that says something like:
    "productid": "some-long-code-here"

  • Copy that long code after "productid": (just the code, not the quotes or label).

Open Command Prompt as Administrator

  • Press Start, type cmd, then right-click on "Command Prompt" and choose "Run as Administrator".

Go to the Easy Anti-Cheat Folder in Command Prompt

  • In the Command Prompt window, type:

    cd path\to\your\game\EasyAntiCheat

Replace path\to\your\game\EasyAntiCheat with the actual folder path on your computer.
    Example:

    cd "C:\Games\YourGame\EasyAntiCheat"

(Use quotes if the folder names have spaces.)

Install Easy Anti-Cheat Using the Product ID

  • Still in Command Prompt, type:

    EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe install your-product-id-here

Replace your-product-id-here with the code you copied from Settings.json.

Sounds frustrating.

  • Can we know your specification
  • Are you reinstalling the games from scratch after wiping your PC or habe you ported folders over?
  • How exactly are you wiping your PC? From the Windows option to do so or are you booting from a Windows installer on a USB stick and formatting the drive?

The 24H2 update has still some issues with EAC. Maybe that's what causing trouble in your case?

Some game developers has switched to another anti cheat app and with that change could've caused other problems aswell.

Check this link from Microsoft known issues in 24H2.

Processor    Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-14900KF   3.20 GHz
Installed RAM    32.0 GB (31.8 GB usable)
System type    64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

I am taking my PC back to factory settings, by going to System - Recovery - Reset PC - then choosing the option that lets me clean everything, not keeping anything and cleaning the hard drive.  Then importing everything from scratch.  I went on to the microsoft store, where I bought SoT back in 2018 and downloaded fresh from there.
