Hello dear community, 馃槃 Good morning,

So - we now have MS Teams here in the office.

A question about this - about "2-factor authentication in Microsoft Teams"聽 So, strictly speaking, the question is: does GitHub work here too? Can I also use the GitHub account that's already there?

Well - I think that would be an advantage - then I could leave the smartphone out of the equation.

I found this online:

Yes, you can enable two-factor authentication (2FA) in Microsoft Teams and GitHub. For both services, this increases security by requiring a second factor in addition to the password, such as a code from an authentication app or a notification on the smartphone.

Hmmm - Well - if that worked with Github too - that would be an advantage - then I could leave the smartphone out of the equation.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards and have a great start to the weekend,

Looking forward to hearing from you. Regards

I don't quite understand what you are asking...you want to use Microsoft teams as your second factor for your Github account? I don't think that is a thing.

In the quote you shared, it appears you asked AI if you can turn on 2FA for both Teams and Github. Which certainly you can. You can turn on 2FA for Teams. You can turn on 2FA for Github. Both of which you can use SMS or a 2FA authenticator app. But Teams and Github are totally separate accounts.聽

EDIT:

I think I see where your confusion may be. You can sign in to Microsoft services聽with聽a Github account and if it matches an existing Microsoft Account, it will link your account and thus, you can sign into Microsoft with Github credentials. Even if you do this, you will still need to fulfil a Microsoft 2FA challenge. So to answer your question, no, you will not be able to leave your smartphone out of the equation. It would also be recommended to have 2FA set up on your Github account so you would need your phone anyways.聽
