Hi I have xpg lancer ddr5 ram can’t remember the speed maybe around 5800 I currently have 2 sticks of 16gb (2x16gb) and was curious what would be the cons of getting 2 more sticks I wanted more ram although I just do printing and some other things I would like to have more ram and also it looks nice with 4 sticks I have a intel i7 13700kf at the moment and only enable xmp when it comes to ram and was curious if it would decrease performance if I got 4 sticks

It won't tank your computer, but it will put more load on the memory controller. Your CPU may have issues regarding RAM speed as well, but overall, if you really need extra RAM, the benefits seem to outweigh the performance difference.
EDIT: With 4 sticks, most CPUs seem to have issues with speeds above 5200MT/s as well.

Get the same kit with the same timings and run them with lower timings

Say 5200 or 5600

You wont have the fastest ram but you'll have more of it

Tho if you are tempted to get it cause of just looks and you dont need the extra ram I'd suggest you get dummy sticks

I edit my posts for so if you saw a typo.... no you didn't, you are just crazy

Having four sticks of RAM doesn't allow it to run as fast. In gaming, it would almost certainly performance (because running 4 sticks at 5800 is not going to happen). If you do workstation work, it may come to use.

Id like to know how you are so confident about this?  Cuz it's xpg ram?  Or the 13700?  Or the motherboard?

I have 4 sticks of g.skill flare x5. 6000 cl36 running expo without issue.

It may just work.   Id say try it, can always return .

Update bios of course.

You mean 3D printing?  What's ram use for that?

If you just WANT more ram, id say no.  Nearly $100 just to fill the slots?  Seems a waste for me but as I said above it may just work without issue.

You can find the speed it's currently running at in the bottom right part of the memory section in task manager. Mine's running at 6400

What ram are you using? 4 sticks of what?  Getting 4 running at 6400, nice.

It's not cl30, but yes.  One set from a microcenter bundle then another bought after.

Worked immediately, no tweaking.

I assume it's a combo of good quality ram, higher latency , good memory controller, and a good motherboard.

And I just love g. Skill ram.  Shit works .

Not really. I'm cheating. This is my work laptop. It's integrated on the mainboard. I'd happily take SoDIMMs running at 5400 over this nightmarishly tiny 16GB that I'm stuck with for, at best, three more years, if not longer (gov't budgets are VERY shaky rn)

Hi sorry will clarify now the ram is 5200mt/s and yea I meant 3d printing and a little bit of 3d modeling with this tab of the ltt forums and background apps im sitting around 9 gb idle of ram being used which leaves still alot of ram but when using a process that takes alot of ram it would probably be alot more
