My current drives are starting to age and I am constantly having to delete stuff to make more room. I was thinking about getting some new Western Digital drives but I am not sure which one to choose. I won't be using these for gaming so I don't think I need the Black version. My main use would be using it to hold a bunch of anime, recorded videos and pictures(lots of pictures that I access daily). I was thinking about getting a Green but I don't want it to have to spin up and down everytime I save a single picture or torrent a new anime episode. I heard Blues were basically Blacks but slightly slower, the only problem is that it only comes in 1TB or less. I was considering the Red version but those seem to be best suited for Servers and NAS users but they are meant to be used a lot. Anyone have any input?

How much space do you need? What will you be storing on the drives?

Well, like I said in my first post, anime, random files, recorded videos and lots of pictures. The thing is that I will be accessing the drive quite a bit so that is why I was thinking the Greens were probably not the best of choice. The thing that turns me off of the Blues is that they only go up to 1TB. I'm trying to get at least 3TB. Unless I get a 1TB Blue and a 2TB~3TB Green and just download everything to my Blue and then copy it to my Green. But if Green is simply for storage, would watching anime and movies off of it be a bad idea?

It would help a lot if you could estimate the amount of space you need right now, and in the near future.

Greens are probably the best option for storage of video files. Blacks are good for storing data you access frequently (they do come with a matching price tag). You can use Reds in a desktop, they're similar to Greens in that regard.

Why not look at some Seagate drives? Their lineup is much simpler, and comes in sizes from 500GB to 6TB per drive.

I probably need around 3tb. I would go for the black but that is $250. For that price I could get 5tb in blues. Would it be better to just get a 1tb blue to have my music and torrent directory on and then copy them to a 3tb green? Would it be a problem if I watched anime off of a green?
