I have been running a 1080ti since it basically was released and have had no complaints but a few months ago my wife suprised me with a odyssey g9 oled. Even having the monitor in 16x9 mode at 1440 this card struggles lol. Looking for recommendations that can push this monitor. Trying to stay under $1000 usd if possible and have seen a few 3080s for under 500 or will I need to go higher to like a 7900xt or 4070? Specs are 5800x3d 32gb 3200mhz.

Any any recommendations on the high or low end would be great.

where do you live? Its a bit of a tough time to go shopping for a GPU as the old stocks are running low and the new are still being introduced and getting sold out.

Depending on local supply and prices id look out for rx 7700 xt, rx 7800 xt or the 7900 gre or xt. Take a good look at prices and compare them to the performance difference.
On the nvidia side look out for 4070, 4070 super, as well as the 4070 ti (super). Ive heard the 4080 super should be no slouch either, but i have no clue if they are still available.

But again, it really depends on your local market. 3080 should be a very decent upgrade too.

You can look at this chart to compare performance between the different cards, although I will recommend looking up specific benchmarks if you have specific games in mind 🙂

mITX is awesome! I regret nothing (apart from when picking parts or have to do maintainance *cough*cough*)

Do you care about raytracing? if so then a 3080 isnt bad

If you dont then a 7900xt or xtx (both can be found for under 1000 USD) are gonna be your best bet

I edit my posts for so if you saw a typo.... no you didn't, you are just crazy

IF they are available their prices are going to high heaven

4080s for like 1700 or 2k (yes those prices exist) 4070s for nearly 1k

AMD is just a better deal

I don't disagree, but funnily enough in my country you can still find a few 4070s and 4070 supers around normal price, while the prices on the 7700 xt and 7800 xt seems to be dropping a bit to get rid of old stock. The GRE seems to be mostly gone at this point. So maybe OP can still score a 4070 TI Super at MSRP, who knows 🤷‍♂️

if they can find a reasonably priced nvidia card and they care about RT ye they should get it  I dont disagree with that

Yeah I'm seeing that now too. Basically nothing available anywhere lol. I've only seen a few 3080s locally second hand. Couple marketplace people selling 7900xt and xtx for close to $1700.

Thought about buying this full pc with a 5700x and 3080 for $700 lol. Only thing with the 3080 is I don't Want to be in the same position in a year or 2 needing to replace it again.

Raytracing isn't really a big deal for me at all and I'm in central Florida.

give it two weeks and cross fingers for the upcoming 9070 and 9070 xt being decent cards then. May have to wait for the initial rush to die down, unless AMD have spend the last 2 month padding the supply. We will see.

In the mean time, I can recommend picking up a few indie games. I got really into Stardew Vally last year when my GPU was in RMA and I only had a laptop with integrated graphics to play on.

you can get them from amazon for less than 1K (concerning the xtx as that is the pricier card)

Tf you mean ppl sell them for close to 1.7k?! Are they (the sellers) morons?! (the answer is yes btw)

With that you'd be looking at around 90 to 100 fps (heavily depends on the game and settings tho and that is an average based on TomsHardware at 1440p ultra)

Depending on the games you play and want to play you'd be fine for more than 3 years I'd say, at worst you could grab a 5700x3d if need be and you're solid

Tho your budget should allow for a 7900xt or xtx which will be solid for quite a while more than the 3080 but that is a theory....

My current system has a 5800x3d but figured if I went the 30 series route a full system with it for $700 wasn't that bad lol. Yeah my 1080ti could push 1440 decently but I'd average like 30-35 in helldivers lol. Then this thing and 5120x1440 it didn't stand a chance.

Yeah I may go that route. I've fallen back to fallout 4 with some wide-screen mods and the kids bullied me into fortnite with them lol. I'll definitely give stardew a try while I'm figuring it out.

Oh that CPU is more than fine then

1440p and above is more so a GPU thing either way so the performance boost will come solely from a gpu upgrade (with that CPU)

Or you could teach your kids about Heroes of Might and Magic 3 - Hot seat style 😄

My own are still a bit too young for that. We are playing Minecraft and Mika the little witch atm

Man there is nothing available lol. For what is available for the 40 series cards I'd get a much better deal buying a pre-built for a couple hundred more than a 4070ti. Looks like the only way to grab a 7900 model is ibuypower pre-built for like 1800.

Well that's why I'm asking...my 1080ti can't run games very well anymore on my g9 odssey and asked for input on best card in the 1000-1200 budget

Wait two weeks. See what AMD brings to the table. And if nothing else, you may see some movement on the second hand market as buyers of the new stuff starts selling their old cards

That was my plan until I got home from work today lol. My wife showed me an email apperently she found some bundle in stock on newegg. Power supply and 7900xtx for ~900 plus tax. She ordered it not knowing I was going to wait. O well if they actually do ship it since the card alone on newegg is going for $1500 it will probably be around that 2 week mark. If some crazy deals pop up for the rx 90s I'll return it lol
