Hey everyone, I could use some help if possible.

My friend built his first PC and for the first week it worked perfectly, but he ran into a (supposedly) CPU issue.

Sometimes the pc doesn't post but all the rgb and fans etc are on, along with the red cpu error led.

He has to turn it off using the reset button on his case and turning it on again multiple times until it eventually works.

When it does eventually work, there are no issues at all, which has made him worried to ever shut down his PC, because it will happen again.

When he took out the cmos battery as advised online, the PC worked perfectly for 3 days, which it then stopped posting again.

MOTHERBOARD: Asus ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming WiFi

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9700x

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x16GB (6000, CL36)

GPU: XFX AMD Radeon 7900 XTX

M.2 Boot SSD: Crucial 2Tb

M.2 SSD: Samsung 990 Pro 4Tb

Any help would be appreciated from the both of us.

Thanks in advance

Edit: Removed PC part picker link, as I shared the wrong list.

Did y'all update the BIOS? B650's shipped BIOS probably doesn't properly support Ryzen 9000.

As far as I know he did update the bios when first building the PC.

I will tell him to double check he did and if not, to get it done.

A part from that, would there be anything else?

I don't know if a PC would work fine once its on, with the cpu not seated properly?

Thanks for the reply.

Always a possibility. There's usually not enough play in a socket for a bad mount, but when installing the cooler, its always possible to unevenly torque it and cause movement of the CPU in socket. Its hard to say whether this has ever happened, but when reseating the CPU fixes it, its quite likely the case.

So he made sure the bios was updated and the issue is still there.

I have told him to reseat his cpu and RAM next, also to try one stick of RAM at a time to make sure its not either sticks etc. I will update when he has done this.

Reseat the cpu. Check for bent pins.

I have told him to do that next. He is just working ATM so when he is free he will do it.

I've also told him to try individual RAM sticks.

Also told him, when mounting his aio to make sure do corner to corner and not tighten them too much all at once (if that makes sense).

Thanks for the reply.

P.S
In addition (if you're going to reseat the chip) I'd do a spread method instead of a pea method for your paste. Spreading it like jam. This way there's no chance an air pocket can cause issues. Just on the note of reseating I've done this recently and have a 5c difference on load.
