Upgrading my ground up built rigs FPS generator, but along with it I’ve had to upgrade the PSU so slapped in a MSI 850 watt. And swapping out my 2070 super that has served me well for 3 years with a 3080!

Looks good!  Decent GPU upgrade too 🙂

Nice MSI PSU, high quality and reliable unit.

Good job.

Thanks, I’m glad you’ve said that. I think I spent more time researching PSUs than GPUs come the time to order parts haha.

I had a mild panic when I was updating the graphics driver as I got a black screen but following a great tip on here I checked the board lights and found out my CPU power connector wasn’t in fully so reseated it and all good.

just spent the past few hours dialling in the fan curves and hopefully the 3D settings, tomorrow will be hammering a few games 😃

Also threw in a SATA 1TB SSD whilst I was in there, just because 🙂

Research is very important but it can definitely lead you down a crazy rabbit hole of different manufacturers, components and names.

The amount of PC parts on the market right now is insane.  Just PSU's alone is insane.

Glad you got that sorted!  A little bit of mild panic is fine when building, feels much better when the system boots hah 😄

How I set my fan curve is this way:  As fast as I can without them being audible when idle, and increase it a bit for gaming or other work.

I NEVER want to hear my fans.

What type of 3D settings did you do?  I have never had to mess with anything like that in Nvidia Control Panel for example.

Too be honest the noise isn’t toooo much of a issue for me as my rig is in my living room on the other side of the room so as long as it’s not at full take off I can’t hear it anyway, so I just like to make sure it isn’t cooking.

I’ll link the video below from JayZ2cents that I’ve used ever since my first build with my 1070 and ever since, it’s a little old now, but it seems to still be relevant and whether it makes any difference I’m not sure, but I do it just in case 🙂

Noise is the most important factor for me as I have my PC right on my desk and I suffer from misophonia AND hyperacusis... Got dealt two bad cards there lol.  Fan noise is a trigger.

A, another JayzTwoCents watcher! 🙂  I like that guy, been watching him for over a decade.  I miss his LN2 overclocking series.

He might not be the most serious tech tuber out there ( Compared to GN or HUB ) But his content is easily digestible and makes it fun to learn.  Like LTT.

I always overclock anything I get no matter if its CPU or GPU.

I run a +210mhz core clock and +1700Mhz on the memory on my RTX 4080.

Fun to see over 3Ghz boost clock when gaming.  Only gained about 5 fps though lol.

Free performance though!

Remember overclocking my first gen Intel i7-950, managed a 3.8ghz all core on that thing! Thats 0.8ghz overclock.. What a beast of a chip.

Thats almost 25% overclock.

The Gigabyte P750/850GMs seem to be the common ones for that, in their original state, some manufacturing defect. However it is now apparently remedied, but I didn’t want to risk it which is why I paid a bit more for the MSI A850GL didn’t see any bad reviews on it to be honest.
